This chapter will teach you how to build a simple 2D video game using XNA Game Studio. The game will be playable on a Windows computer capable of running DirectX9 with a video card that supports pixel shader 1.1 or higher, an Xbox 360, or a Microsoft Zune media player. To create this project you will need to download and install XNA Game Studio 3.0, which is a free Microsoft product. Obviously you will need an Xbox 360 or Zune if you wish to run the game on these devices; otherwise, the Windows version can be created and run with no additional hardware or software.
